The Following "Hall of Fame" Spread was in the 1973 Springfield's Speedway Program
Springfield's Speedway "Hall of Fame"
The Springfield's Speedway "Hall of Fame" was originated in 1973 to pay tribute to those people who
have made an outstanding contributuion to the sport of automobile racing at Springfield's Speedway.
Candidates for the "Hall of Fame" must be inactive in automobile racing.
No more than four people will be admitted each year.
The First Four to enter the Springfield's Speedway "Hall of Fame" are :
Bobby Baugh Jr. ~ Bob Tattersall ~ Rex Easton ~ Allen Crowe
The Inaugural Members
Bobby Baugh Jr.
Bobby Baugh served hundreds and hundreds of nights bhind the mocrophone at
Midgets, Motrocycles or Stock Cars, whatever the program for the night was,
Bob described the action withability second to none.
( Passed on October 3, 1972 )
Nine time Austrailian Champion as well as U.S.A.C. National Champion in 1969, Bob Tattersall
won many a Feature Races at Springfield's Speedway. Many guess Bob to be one of the
Greatest drivers to ever sit behind the wheel of a Midget Race Car. One thing IS for certain
is that "TAT" was a tremendous Favorite at Springfield's Speedway IN or OUT of a race car.
( Passed on October 27, 1971 )
Rex is another one of the Great Midget Drivers to campaign at Springfield's Speedway.
No matter if He started in the front row or back , whether the track was dry or wet,
Rex was a threat to win. Now retired but never forgotten, Rex resides in Springfield.
Rex Passed in December of 1974 .....
Allen cut his eye teeth at Springfield's Speedway. Starting in the Stock Cars and moving
and moving up fast, he soon became a first class chauffer. It was a real honor to see Allen
driving with the Best of U.S.A.C. and be able to herald him as a local driver.
In Memory of Allen Crowe
November 12, 1928 - June 2, 1963
Born in York, Illinois, Crowe died in New Bremen, Ohio
from injuries sustained in a Sprint Car Race at New Bremen Speedway.
He drove in the USAC Championship Car Series,

SPEEDWAY OPENS 38TH SEASON MAY 1
Joe Shaheen's Springfield Speedway will begin its 38th season of auto racing May 1
when the United States Auto Club national midget division competes on the quarter-mile dirt track.
Gates will open at 6 p.m., with time trials at 7 and racing at 8. The speedway's regular weekly action
will commence May 3 with racing in the winged sprint, late model and sportsman divisions.
The USAC show is one of nine special events slated for Springfield Speedway.
It should have said the 41st Season
1987 would be the Last Season for the quarter-mile Oval

SEPT. 6 TO BE SPECIAL DAY FOR MEMORIES AT SPRINGFIELD SPEEDWAY
Race fans, mark Sept. 6 on your calendars.
That should be one of the most memorable nights ever at Springfield Speedway.
And for once, most of the excitement probably will not be generated by racing
The speedway's season-long observance of its 40th season of continuous operation
will culminate that night with a special reunion of past and present race drivers and fans.
At least, that's what the Springfield Speedway reunion committee is hoping for.

PLANS FOR SPRINGFIELD SPEEDWAY REUNION ACCELERATING
Preparations for the Sept. 6 bash at Springfield Speedway are rapidly picking up speed.
And not without some interesting by-products.
"It's just wonderful, the response we've been getting," said Joyce Standridge,
a key member of the Speedway reunion committee, which has the tremendous task
of organizing the celebration for Joe Shaheen's 40 years of operating Springfield Speedway.
"The enthusiam is really snowballing.
